About

Ethan Tai

I'm Ethan Tai, an alto saxophonist studying jazz at Cornell. I built Reharmonize to help beginning and intermediate students learn new tunes by surfacing transcription resources, recommended recordings, and other standards that use the same harmonic vocabulary. These are the resources I wish I'd had when I started playing jazz in middle school.

Reharmonize maps over 1,500 jazz standards by their chord progressions. Each tune's changes are tokenized into Roman numeral patterns and scored against every other tune. The result is a similarity graph grounded in theory, not by genre, era, or composer.

“A tool for jazz musicians where you type a standard you know and it surfaces other tunes built on similar chord changes, perfect for practice or just for hearing why two songs feel related.”

About the data

Chord progressions are sourced from community uploads and manually verified for the most-played standards. If you spot an error in a tune's changes or its recommended recordings, email me — I fix corrections within 48 hours.
